Oman Air Cargo drives daily flights to Dubai

Oman Air Cargo is launching a daily road service between Muscat and Dubai. Oman’s national airline is not opting for additional flights, but for road transport between the Omani capital and the United Arab Emirates.

According to Oman Air Cargo, the new connection will make it possible to transport larger shipments and cargo normally suitable for widebody aircraft more efficiently. The distance between Muscat and Dubai is less than 500 kilometres, making road transport a logical alternative for certain cargo flows.

Oman Air Cargo opts for daily road connection

Both perishable goods and general cargo will be transported on the new route. Oman Air Cargo is targeting shipments that are too large for narrowbody aircraft or for which daily road transport is more practical than air freight.

The service is intended to expand trade opportunities between Oman and the Emirates. For companies that regularly move freight between Muscat and Dubai, a fixed daily route can provide greater predictability in planning and capacity.

Oman Air Cargo responds to larger shipments

The new service offers space for freight that cannot easily be carried on smaller aircraft. This includes bulky shipments, temperature-sensitive goods and regular cargo that needs to be moved quickly between the two markets.

By combining air cargo organisation with road transport, a hybrid logistics solution is created. This fits a broader trend in which air cargo operators are increasingly looking at additional land connections to offer customers more capacity and flexibility.

Oman Air Cargo does not cite unrest as reason

Recently, more carriers in the Middle East have opted for alternative land routes, partly due to unrest in the region. Oman Air Cargo, however, does not make a direct link with geopolitical tensions in its announcement.

Even so, the new service shows that logistics networks in the Gulf region are becoming increasingly flexible. For shippers, this means that combinations of air freight and road transport are becoming more important when capacity, speed and reliability are all required.

Did you know that…

...air cargo companies regularly use road transport as an extension of their network? This is often used for regional connections where flying is not always faster or more efficient.
