APMT Maasvlakte II is expanding with four new ZPMC container cranes
TOP MAGAZINE · Ports
APM Terminals Maasvlakte II has taken delivery of four new cranes, including three Super Quay Cranes and one Barge Feeder Crane, supplied by ZPMC. The expansion marks the next step in the continued growth of the Rotterdam port complex.
New investment in port infrastructure
The APMT Maasvlakte II terminal in Rotterdam has increased its capacity with the arrival of four brand-new container cranes. This delivery comprises three Super Quay Cranes (SQC) and one Barge Feeder Crane (BFC), all of which were built by ZPMC, a leading Chinese manufacturer of port equipment.
The cranes were transported by ship on the Zhen Hua 27 and have now arrived in the Port of Rotterdam. According to the terminal operator, the new cranes are intended for handling ever-larger and more efficient ship cargoes and barge traffic.
Increase in container handling and preparations
The new cranes will further strengthen the existing operational capacity of the terminal site. Before the cranes are put into service, they will undergo a period of testing and fine-tuning. This is intended to ensure that the advanced systems are fully adapted to working conditions in Rotterdam.
The addition of the Super Quay Cranes and the Barge Feeder Crane forms part of a wider investment programme focused on modernisation and scaling up at the container terminal.
A boost for terminal growth in Rotterdam
With this investment, APMT Maasvlakte II is strengthening its position as one of the most modern and largest container terminals in Europe. The expansion with these new cranes will better enable the terminal to respond to growing container volumes and the trend towards larger deep-sea and inland waterway vessels.
The deployment of the new cranes is expected to contribute to greater flexibility and increased efficiency in the handling of ships and barges.

Planning
Shippers can look forward to improved handling capacity in the coming period, although a short transition phase is anticipated for testing and commissioning the new cranes.
Costs
The additional capacity may lead to more efficient operations, which in the long term could contribute to more competitive pricing for terminal services.
Point to note
Please bear in mind that there will be a transition period during which the new cranes will be tested; temporary adjustments to sailing schedules or terminal procedures may be necessary.
